Hello Nicole!

First of all, thank you so much for such a great website. I have long been looking for a website that would have all the baby/toddler sleep information I need in one place.

I have a 17-months old daughter who co-sleeps with me. She wakes up several times a night (today it got to the point that I just got up with her at 3:30am since she kept waking up and crying). She was weened when she was 13 months old. She often wakes up crying, but falls back asleep quickly after I start patting her (I think she wants to make sure that I am still nearby). We have never tried to sleep train her hoping that she'd outgrow the sleep problems, but I am extremely tired now and cannot see these problems going away at least in the next year or so. The lack of sleep definitely affects the quality of my and my husband's lives, we constantly feel stressed and tired (although my husband now sleeps in a different room, he is a very light sleeper).

Nicole, I am thinking about starting to sleep train my daughter using the Ferber method but am afraid that she is too sensitive for that, she throws up when she cries and is VERY attached to me.

We also have already gotten rid of the crib because I figured that it's too small for her and I want to get her a twin bed. The problem is that she can now get out of the bed whenever she wants.

What would you be able to suggest in our situation?

Thank you very much for your response!

Our kindest regards,

Bella and Liliya

I also forgot to add that I rock her to sleep for the nap and she falls asleep laying next to me for the bedtime. It takes from 40 min to 1.5hrs to fall asleep at night.

Hi Liliya,

There is a lot in between sleep deprivation and cry it out, so don't feel you have to jump to Ferberizing, especially if she throws up! Have you read about the various methods available to you? Here are a couple of articles that might steer you in the right direction and if you'd like me to develop a customized plan for you, I'm always available for one-on-one consultations. ;)

Hope this helps!

Good luck!

Take care,
