Hi there,

I have heard that if you give your baby water when he wakes up in the middle of the night, that he will sleep though the night. How true is this?

My little boy is now 4 months old and on a fairly good routine – if there is such a thing….He eats every 4 hours – 6am, 10am, 2pm, 6pm, 10pm, 2am and so on. I would really like to get him to sleep though the night. He has done 8 hour stretches from 6pm to 2am before.

If anyone has any comments I would really appreciate the input.

Many thanks and happy mothering….

Hi there- I would recomment talking to your pediatrician before giving your 4 month old water. I have not heard that it helps babies sleep lionger, and would be concerned about filling his tummy with a non-nutritive drink. At his age, it is probably best to have him take calories and fat with every sip.

Good luck!
