My daughter (8 months) is on her way down to 2 naps.  Right now, she naps 8:30 – 10, 12:30 – 2, and 4:30 – 5.  Some days, she won't take the 3rd nap.  How will I know when to cut it out all together?  The Mastering Naps book says when she refuses for a week – does this mean when she cries through her entire nap time for a week?

Also, on days she misses the 3rd nap, she falls asleep for the night by 6:00 or 6:30.  But I think this 4 hour interval from the end of her last (2nd) nap until bedtime is still too long for her to handle. If she is sleeping well otherwise, can I consider shifting her schedule later – like napping at 9:30 and 1:30 (instead of 8:30 and 12:30)?  That way, the interval between the last nap and bedtime won't be as long… anyone have experience with this or think it will work?

Thanks!

Sorry there hasn't been a response to your post! I imagine by now your daughter has transition to two naps. Would love for you to post back on how it's going and if what you were proposing did indeed work for you.

Hi there, my son is currently 8 and a half months, and this situation sounds like mine. If anyone has a response to provide, like many others out there, I would love to hear it. Kimberly, if you're still around, would also love to hear what you would have provided as a recommendation to her questions…

Thank you.

Hello Chant-

I do not know if you are still stuggling with naps, but please check out the post "Quick Question About Dropping Naps" in the 9-12 month section. I think it will have information that fits your situation…

And yes, shifting the schedule (15 min at a time) can help the overtiredness in the evening.

Best wishes,

Debbye
