Hi,

My daughter just turned 1 on the 1st.  We had gotten into a really good routine of one nap (she's NEVER napped more than once a day once she turned about 4 months old) around 11:30 that lasted an hour and 20 minutes to 2 hours a day and then in bed by 7:30.  She was even sleeping through the night until 4:30-7:00 AM (more often until 7).  Then Sunday night she was up every 2 hours until I gave her motrin at 2 AM.  Then she slept through until 7.  We had her 1 year check up on Monday and the doctor said she is getting her top molars.  All week sleep hasn't been great at night, up once or twice.  She's wanting to nap earlier and earlier in the day, but then won't take another nap and can't make it until bedtime (last night I put her to bed at 6:30 and she slept until 7 with one waking at 10).  She is also RUNNING all day long now.  I am thinking our issues are related to the teeth and the walking/running, but what do I do about them?  Do I put her in her crib for a second nap and just make her cry it out to sleep?  She is miserably fussy when she's awake unless it's within 2 hours of her just getting up in the morning or from her nap.  So basically we get about 4 hours of peacefulness a day and then it's just terrible.  Any suggestions?

Molars, developmental milestones and not enough sleep. Ouch! That is a lot to handle all at once!

You can try and wait out the teething and the walking/running milestones. Things may improve in a couple weeks if you are lucky. Just try not to introduce new sleep associations that will be hard to break later.

Your daughter really sounds as if she needs more sleep. Have you read the free nap guide? Here is a link to download it.

There are many other ways to work on getting your daughter to nap more during the day. You do not just have to let her cry it out. For example, you can begin with using your usual nap routine, and staying with her as you ssshhh, pat, or do whatever you can to help her to sleep. Once she is accustomed to this 2nd nap, you can begin to do less and less to help her fall asleep.

I also want to suggest that you consider purchasing our ebook, Mastering
Naps and Schedules. It has a lot more in depth information and plenty of sample schedules. It is available for purchase at http://babynapswell.com.

If you buy the ebook, you also have the option to purchase the book
along with 1 email consultation where Nicole will give you a specific plan that you can commit to and feel good about.

I wish you the best of luck,

Debbye
