Now that my 9 month old son's first 4 teeth are in, his naps are back to normal. However, the past 5 nights he has been waking up at about 4:30 am/5:00amish just crying uncontrollably. I will usually give him about 15 min before I go in. When I do go in, I lay him back down and rub his belly, which seems to be enough to settle him down and back to sleep until his normal wake up time. Any ideas to why this might be happening?

Hi there,
So, he is not hungry, right? My first thought was growth spurt, but given he goes back to sleep fairly quickly, I would next look at bedtime being too late such that he's overtired at bedtime.
Good luck!

I can't imagine that it's because he's not going to bed early enough. His bedtime is 7:30pm and I don't get him up until 7:30 am. He has been sleeping 12 hours since about 4 1/2 months old. It's been on and off since I last posted, so maybe he's moving out of it. Another question/concern that I have is that he has shaken his head back and forth over and over again before I put him down for a nap. Could this be just another sign that he is sleepy or something else? Any suggestions?
