How to comfort a sick baby at night?

My 11 month old son has had colds before, but this one in particular is keeping him up at night and he's not napping good on top of that. I took him to the doc today to check for an ear infection. It's not an ear infection, but just a plain old cold. I feel his cough is keeping him from sleeping soundly, but whatever it is, I need to help with tips on how to make him sleep better. We already use a humidifer in his room. If I prop up his mattress, I don't know how well he stay laying with his head at the top since he tends to sleep in every direction he can. If he ususally doesn't wake for a bottle, do I give him one if he wakes up (I guess that's an age question because my husband and I disagree to whether or not give him a night time bottle if he won't go back to sleep)?  Any suggestions would be great.
