We are having a heck of a time figuring out when to put our daughter to bed.  We've tried earlier, later, and can't seem to get it right.  Here's an example of her schedule or at least what happened yesterday:

4:45 – 5 a.m. – wakes up crying, sometimes throws her lovie out of the crib

5:30 a.m. – dad goes in and gives her lovie back, tells her to go night night.  She tosses and turns (whines a little) and appears to fall back to sleep off and on.

5:50 a.m. – starts crying again (hard)

6:00 a.m. – mom gets her up and she's very happy

6:10 a.m. – offered a bottle and takes 4 oz

6:30 a.m. – breakfast (organic waffles, bananas)

6:45 a.m. – out the door to daycare

8:00 a.m. - 1-1.5 hr morning nap

10:00 a.m. - 6 oz bottle

12:00 p.m. - lunch (fruit and veggies)

1:00 p.m. - afternoon nap 1.5 hours max (daycare mandatory naptime 1-3 p.m.)

3:00 p.m. - 6 oz bottle

4:00 p.m. - mom picks up from daycare

4:45 p.m. - 5 oz bottle at home

5:15 p.m. - dinner (protein, veggies, grains, dairy)

5:50 p.m. - start bedtime routine (bath, lotion, pjs, story, bed)

6:30 – 6:50 p.m. - asleep – no problem falling asleep on her own.  Sometimes takes 10 minutes and others 30+ minutes.  But she does it without us having to go in and assist.

Our schedule feels stretched to the max because of leaving for work early and getting her sleep and meals in.

Hi there,

In looking over your schedule. I'm not sure I quite understand what you mean about findng the right bedtime. Are you referring to trying to get her to sleep through the 4:45-5 am/5:30 and 5:50 am wake ups? I think her bedtime may not be the problem but that it might be her overall daytime schedule.

Typically, at this age, a child will need 2-2.5 hours of nap time (total) and then 11-12 hours of sleep at night and from your schedule, it looks like your daughter is pretty much on mark with that. If she's asleep by 7 pm or so, then by 5 am or so, she's already approaching having gotten her night's sleep already.

I think what may need to happen here to help remedy the early morning wake up is shifting her daytime schedule. If she's waking from her last nap at around 1:30 or 2 pm, then not going to sleep until 7 or later, then she may be getting over tired, which can definitely affect nighttime sleep.

If you take a look at these recommended schedules for an 11 month old (http://www.babysleepsite.com/s…..-schedule/), you'll see that Nicole has naps set at approx. 10 and 2 pm with the wake up from the last nap happening around 3 pm.

Is there a way that the daycare could push her naptimes a bit? If her naps were a bit later, then you could also try a bit later bedtime that might help shift the early morning wake up. But previously, when you tried a later bedtime, it probably did not work well because it wasn't also done with a shifting of her daytime schedule.

Hope this helps.

Kimberly
