From the time my daughter was little, she has been a GREAT sleeper.  Falling asleep on her own, sleeping 13 hours at night, etc.

She has been drinking less and less formula and her Dr had already said it was on the low end for her age (some days only 16oz a day- she's 10 months).  And to add to it, she hardly eats any solid food, so the Dr. wanted me to try getting her to drink and eat more.  She always drank her entire bottle when I gave it to her at bedtime with no problem.  So I started giving her bottles before her naps, instead of with meals.

Now I think she is dependant on me getting her to sleep in my arms! I have only been giving her bottles at nap time for about a 1.5 weeks, and she has actually been drinking them all, so I wanted to continue! She is back up to 22 oz some days (still… not much solids).

But The past 2 nights I have had to go in to a screaming baby in the middle of the night and just hold her until she falls asleep (no way and I going to make her a bottle when we passed that stage months ago!) So lastnight she was up every 2 hours, and it took me on average 1.5-2 hours to get her back to sleep. I would just hold her. rock her. she wouldn't fuss, but it would take a long time for her to falla sleep. I'm tired!!!

Do you think I've done this, or could it be teething maybe?  She still only has her bottom 2 teeth, and got those 3 months ago- but I don't remember her being like this.  She isnt in any pain throughout the day or at night, but she will NOT sleep untill I'm holding her, and I've even tried just sitting next to her bed (since when I go out of sight she screams), but that isnt even good enough.  If she's OK with it, she still won't sleep, she'll stand up over and over and over…..

Any advice?  Do I need to start sleep training? Should I give it a couple days? Should I stop her naptime bottles?? So many questions!!!!

Ok, there are over 250 people who have read your post, and no reply! Come on people! Surely people have feedback to give you. Although it is an older post, I'd be curious to know how everything worked out. I have an 8 month old son, and I would like to hear different stories from people who have shared similar situations…

It sounds like a sleep association issue. One thing to try is give her the bottles after she wakes froom the nap, so she is not associating drinking a bottle with going to sleep for naps.

As for the night waking, the fact that she stays awake for so long, even while being held, leads me to believe there may be a scheduling issue too. It is hard, but you want your baby to have enough sleep, and not too much sleep!

Here is a link for suggested schedules from 4-12 months:

And one reason for the sudden "bad sleeping" could be the, not so fun, but quite common, "8-9-10 month sleep regression"

Here is a link to an article about that:

I hope this helps you other parents sruggling with the same matters!
