Hi there,

My 10 month old used to sleep through the night, or I'd have to go to him once or twice.  Lately, it's every two hours.  I think that it may have to do with his soother – that's what he uses to fall asleep.  I'm wondering if there is a good way to wean off the soother?  He also has a screaming fit aroun 4 or 5.  I'm not sure if that's seperation anxiety, teething or both.  I don't think that he's hungry as he will go back to sleep after 30 mins for 2 hours.  He goes to bed at 7 and wakes around 7-7:30 for the day.  Takes two naps a day.

Thanks in advance!

HI-

Babies at around 8-10 months often begin to have a harder time sleeping. If your son "needs" the soother, then you are on the right track in wanting to wean him off of it.

I would recommend that you work to transition him from needing the
pacifier to go to sleep and to stay asleep. His ability to learn to go to sleep
on his own and to go back to sleep at night when he wakes will really only
happen once he’s no longer dependent on the pacifier to go to sleep.

There are different methods
of sleep training that you can use to help teach her this including no cry and
limited crying methods. There is no magic answer to weaning from the soother, only removing it from the equation, and helping him learn how to fall asleep without it.

I wish you lots of luck, and an easy transition!!
