Short naps and early waking

My 8 month old has never been the best napper and I admit that we never helped the situation by rocking him to sleep. Recently though, any time you put him in his crib for a nap, he just screams. If he does fall asleep, he'll nap for maybe 30 mins (2-3 times per day). Even if you have rocked him, he'll wake up the second you try to put him down and start crying. Of course, he'll sleep wonderfully if you hold him. We do have a nap routine, but it doesn't seem to be helping at all. It's clear he is getting overtired, which is causing some early waking (we're slowly putting him to bed earlier in hopes to alleviate that issue). He's basically getting 11 – 11 1/2 hours of sleep in a 24 hour period and I can tell that isn't enough. Would love any advice as we've tried quite a few things and nothing is working.

Hi-

Have things improved with naps? I sure hope so!

Remember to be consistent, and if you are trying ot "nap train" then stick to your plan for a least on e week before deciding if it is helping. You can start by sitting with him as he falls asleep, ssshhing patting etc, but not rocking, until he falls asleep. There will be tears most likely, but he will know you are there for him to comfprt him but will also ultimately learn to fall asleep on his own.
