Hello!  I'm new to this forum.  I have 3 kiddos, and my baby turned 7 months old one week ago.  He does great at night.  We have one wake up somewhere between 5:30 and 6 a.m. where he nurses and immediately falls back to sleep.  He stays in bed no later than 7 a.m.  b/c I've set a wake up time for him.

I'm not so fortunate with naps.   I KNOW he's not just a "short napper" b/c he has taken many, many great naps…I just haven't found that magic "awake time" or magic "nap time" that makes him more consistent.

I've looked at all the sample schedules for a 7 month old, and I don't really see one that is a match for my son.  He can go at least 3 1/2 hours between feedings, he still is taking 3 naps, but he will NOT go down for a nap after just 2 hours in the morning.  What do I do next?  Do I need to jump to an 8 month schedule?  Or, b/c I'm setting a nap time, to I force him to a nap after just 2 hours even though he cries and protests?

Last week, he was waking up at approximately 6:30 a.m., he'd stay up for 2h 40m and I would get at least an hour and 10 minute nap out of him.  But, compared to all the schedules, this is an incredibly long awake time.  Today and yesterday, he didn't wake up until 7 a.m. and even though I put him in his crib after his normal amount of A time, he didn't fall asleep until the 3 hour mark.

I love the idea of all the sample schedules, but I'm just not sure where to turn since they don't seem to match with my son.  Any input is greatly appreciated!!!

The sample schedules are really just suggestions. In this situation, I think what might the most important thing to consider are 1) is he getting enough total sleep during the day and 2) does he seem happy during his awake time or is he tired and rubbing his eyes? If he's happy and he's getting enough total sleep during the day, then you might just need to go with what he's telling you. Sometimes we can be surprised at what our babies tell us about their needs.

Some kids just don't lend themselves well to being consistent with their schedule each day and if he's one of those AND he's sleep well at night, then I'd say the two above considerations are really what's most important.

Hope this helps! Laugh
