Does not eating solids contribute to sleep problems?

Hello all…

My 8 mo old son has zero interest in solids.  For the last 2 months we've offered rice cereal, pureed foods of all kinds, and some mushy solids like bananas.  He doesn't like the texture of the mushy things he can hold, and it's a good day when I can get a couple of teaspoons of baby food in his mouth.

I don't want him to associate negative feelings with eating, so I only try to feed him once a day in the mornings.  I've heard other mothers tell me some of their kids didn't like to eat solids until about 10 mo +, but my questions is this:

My son is now crawling and pulling himself into standing position quite easily.  Does all this activity and only drinking my milk contribute to sleep issues? I think he's getting enough calories, but there's no way I can aim for "Goal for Day" for 8 mo olds in the "Mastering Naps and Schedules" manual.

Thoughts?

THANKS!

Hi there-

How does your son respond to finger foods and foods with a different texture?

YOu may want to check out this website that has been very useful to me on baby food: http://www.wholesomebabyfood.com

While your son may have a harder time sleeping through the night only because breastmilk is digested faster than some solids, breastmilk only diets, or breastmilk prevelent diets should not contribute to poor sleep. Though you may want to talk to your doctor or a lactation specialist if you are concerned about your son not getting enough nutrition.

Good luck!!!
