Hi!

My 8 mo old has just discovered how to easily stand up in his crib! He used to go down so nicely for naps, but now just wants to stand up!

I've been trying to let him CIO, and when I do lay him back down he immediately stands back up.  Should I just let him cry standing up and not lay him back down?  He cried/talked for an hour this morning until I finally laid him down with a pacifier-then he slept.  Perhaps this is just a phase?

Hi Laura,

You may continue to remind him to lay down a few times, and lay him down a few times, and even pat the bed a few times, but try not to spend too much time doing this, it could become a game or at least a bad habit that happens every time. You will want to make this interaction brief and matter of fact. Yes, if he will not stay laying down, you can leave him standing when you go.yes, things may smooth out soon, as he realizes that he is expected to go sleep on his own, and that you are not going to stay with him or lay him down over and over for an hour.

Good luck!
