hello, we have a 7.5 month old she will be 8 months next week.  She has a set schedule that she wakes every morning at 6:45 and then is down for a nap at 9 then a nap at 1 and then down for bed between 7:30 and 8.  We stopped her middle of the night feedings after the doctor told us at her 6 month apointment that she doesn't need that feeding anymore and we have tried letting her cry it out twice now. She gets more then enough solids and bottles during the day I can't even believe how much she eats.  And she also goes into her crib awake and puts herself to sleep.  Once she is down between 7:30-8 she will wake between 11/12 and then again 2/3 that is the usual but then there are some nights I swear she is up every hour.  We are absolutely exhausted, Does anyone have any suggestions?

Hi there,

It sounds like you have a pretty regular daytime schedule and you don't mention naps as being a problem, so I'm assuming that she's getting good naps in during the day.

I do have to wonder if she might getting hungry at night- especially if she's going through a growth spurt. It's not really that uncommon for some babies to need at least one feeding to get through the night until 9 months of age. Although, pediatricians and doctors sometimes disagree about this. 11-12 hours is a long time for some babies to go without eating (especially since they have such small tummies)

(This article provides some additional info on night weaning or night feedings: http://www.babysleepsite.com/s…..ght-wean/)

When she wakes at night, what does she do? Does she cry and need either mom or dad to come in and comfort her? How do you handle the night wakings? Is she awake for a long time?

I'm wondering if a quick feeding at her first wake up might help with additional wake ups later in the night.

Please post back with additional details about the night wakings, and we can continue to work on possible solutions.

Kimberly-

Thank you for be willing to help!!! Its really appreciated!  My daughter naps between 45 minutes to an hour and a half twice a day.  When she wakes at night she normally cries out until I either go in the room and give her her binki or until she gets to the point that she eventually after about an hour cries herself to sleep.  We have gotten into a habit of not picking her up out of bed so that we don't wake her any more then she needs to be.  Most times all we need to do is give her her binki and she goes right back to sleep, whereas the other times which are very few we do eventually end up have to pick her up and rock her to calm her down.  The past couple of nights though she has woken for about 2 minutes and has fallen back asleep so that I am not getting out of bed because she is going right back to sleep.  We have recently tried a couple of nights ago to put her to bed by 7 opposed to 7-8:30.  Any other suggestions?

If she's going back to sleep after just a few minutes, then I would just continue to do what you are doing and not go in.

Do you think the earlier bedtime is helping? Are there fewer night wakings?

My only other suggestion is to keep an eye on whether you think she's going through a growth spurt or teething which might need some additional assistance from you for her to get through a waking, including the possiblity of a feeding.
