Hi everyone. I know there are similar posts about this but my son has been waking frequently and feeding up to twice a night for several weeks now. It's gone on too long I think to really be a growth spurt. I've tried resettling him overnight but he's pretty good at self settling so if he doesn't settle back in a short time I've just been feeding him. He has 2-3 naps during the day. Usually 1-2 good ones of about 1.5hrs and a quick one (30-40mins) in the late afternoon (although sometimes he skips this one). He goes to bed 6:30-7pm). He has 4xbottles during the day, solids 3 x a day, plus a bottle at 9ish and 1-2 overnight. I think he's only supposed to need 3-4 bottles in total at this age? All my friends have babies that have slept through the night since 6 weeks or less so am feeling less than adequate at the moment. What are other people's experiences of this age group and does anyone have any advice regarding feeding frequency and night wakings?

Thankyou!

Miriam

Hi Meriam

Not sure if you're still having this problem…I've read Marc Weissbluth's book. According to him, breastfed babies may still need up to 2 night feedings until 8 months of age when they are fully esb on solids and eating protein.  He should be getting 600-800ml of milk during the day.  My little one was doing the same as yours and I've realised in retrospect that she probably wasn't meeting her milk requirements during the day and was genuinely hungry at night (I was only able to express 130ml max if my breasts were very full).  I've started topping her up in the afternoons and evenings before bed and even though she now wakes briefly, she is able to settle herself back to sleep.  Hope this helps
