So my lo is 4m today. I have tried to put him down sleepy but awake and it turns into a scream fest, the screaming is like nothing i have heard. He sounds like he is in pain=0  I have spoken to Nicole but i have not been successful with her adv because of the screaming!!!!! And i just cant afford another consult. So i figure i will try here. he just works himself into such a mess…I swear he cries because he crying! At some point i cant even calm him down=( And the problem on top of that is i live in a small apt with a ds in the next room=( Please help how can i get him to self sooth if its always a screaming disater! I keep his awake times short and look for sleep clues. He up at 630-7am naps at 8ish,10/11,230/3, and then i usually cant get him to  nap again. So i get him ready for bed and usually ends up in bed by 630/7pm…. i swaddle him, bath, lotion, white noise and nurse and rock him. I know he has to learn to self sooth and its what i trying to do but its not working!

Hi Erin,

I'm curious to know what advice Nicole gave you. Perhaps we can come up with some ideas that will work with that advice and help with the screaming.

It's tough at this age because some babies just haven't quite yet gained the ability to self soothe enough to be able to put themselves to sleep.

He's still a little young so it might just be too soon to be working on having him fall asleep by himself. Yes, I know we try to avoid creating sleep associations that we just have to break later, but it could very well be that he won't be ready to learn something like until he's a bit older. How much total is he napping during the day? How often does he wake at night?

Have you noticed that he's uncomfortable or screaming at other times? Is he restless when he's sleeping?

Let's start with those questions and see where we can go from there.
