nap training 5 mth old – couple more questions

As we nap-train our baby (using check & console) for the next 5-7 days (hopefully less!) I've been wondering if it's okay to take her out in her stroller or sling, or should we make sure to stay home for all naps so she can work on things in the same place–her crib?

She tends to fall asleep in the stroller and the sling very easily, without any crying, so I figure that's a kind of sleep association. If that happens during this season of nap-training, will it make it difficult for her to learn to put herself to sleep at all the other times when she is put down in her crib?

Another question I have is regarding Nicole's suggestion of the 'nap hour' where you keep the baby in bed for an hour for the first 2 naps, even if the baby doesn't sleep for the entire period. We're considering starting this, once she's mastered falling asleep for naps, but I'm wondering if we should wait till she turns 6 months?

I think your instincts are correct on waiting until she is nap trained before implementing a "nap hour." Once she knows how to fall aslep on her own for naps, they may lenghten on their own, and this usually happens at of after 6 months.

As for the stroller, you are right about considering getting through the nap training before letting her nap in the stroller or sling. As a general rule, she will do better with learning if the methods are consistent. That being said, if you guys really just need a break, it will not hurt to give yourelf, and her, a break and let her fall asleep "the easy way" once or twice!
