Baby Cries when goes down for naps and sleep

Hello my baby girl is just over 5 months.  We had rocked her to sleep for just over 4 months but it got worse as the time went on.  We would rock her for hours each night and she would not go down to sleep.  It got to the point where anything that was related to sleep would make her cry eg.  Sleep sac, rocking, dimming the lights etc.

Because we couldn't rock her for hours and hours and she would cry anyways, we ended up trying the crying it out method and been doing this for about a month now.  We know she is capable of self soothing herself.  My problem is she still cries when we put her down for naps and sleep time.  Sometimes its for a couple of minutes and sometimes up to an hour.  Each night we do a bedtime routine.  And I always watch for her tired signs etc.

When she does go down for a nap it's only about 40 minutes.

Will this pass?  What are we doing wrong?

Any tips and advice would be muchly appreciated.  I am completely stressed out!

I feel I can't even leave the house because I am trying so hard to get her to have healthy sleep.

Hi Lisa,

I just responded to your email about this same issue. In addition to the items I mentioned there, I'd like to point you to a couple of specific articles that might be helpful to you.

This first one is a series that goes through the different personality types that a baby might have and how that relates to sleep training. I'd recommend reading through the different types for insight about your daughter's personality type:

If you haven't already, I'd recommend you read Nicole's post about sleep associations as I think this is a related issue for you all as well: http://www.babysleepsite.com/s…..sociation/

And finally, I'd suggest that you read through Nicole's series that talks about creating a sleep training plan: http://www.babysleepsite.com/s…..es-part-1/ for ideas about your own sleep training plan for your daughter.

There is also the option of one on one consultation with Nicole, where you can get support and help creating a plan specific to your situation.

Please don't be too hard on yourself that you are doing something wrong. As parents, we all try to do what we think is best. It will get better!
