My sweet son is just about to hit 5 months. As we now know is quite common, he went through a serious sleep regression when he turned 4 months. We're dealing with the more frequent night wakings, and the hard time getting him to nap. My real concern now is that for the last week he won't go down for his final catnap before bedtime. He sleeps every 1.5-2 hours, so if he wakes from his last nap at 2:30 or 3:00, the final nap at 4:00 or 5:00 is brutal! He'll fall asleep (we hold and bounce him to soothe till drowsy), then wakes up as soon as we place him in the crib. This isn't uncommon for him, but I don't want to keep trying to get him to take that nap until much past 5:15. But if he doesn't nap, it means it can be 4 hours or so until bedtime!! No good!!! Please help! Do I keep trying to get him to take that nap, even if it's getting close to 5:30 (or later)? When do I give up, and does it mean I should put him to bed at 5:30 instead?? I've been trying to be really aware of his sleepy signs and not let him get to tired, but it doesn't seem to make a difference for this last nap. Please help!

My son is the same as yours. He fights that nap and we are almost never succesful. For me it is very important for him to take it because as a work time mom I would love to have some interactive time with him before his bedtime. But, as I read in Dr Weissbluth book, you might need to consider a super early bedtime so he can catch up on his sleep. So depending on his naps during the day we put him to bed at 5:30 and he falls asleep within 5 minutes. Try that, it might work for you too.

My little girl never wanted the 3rd nap after 4 months and she preferred an early bedtime of bwn 17:30 and 18:00.  She usually get up from her 2nd nap around 13:30 and would be pretty wired at bathtime, but settled easily for the night.  The endless battle to get her to take a 3rd nap wasn't worth the effort and I found that even if she did take that nap, it didn't make much of a difference to her mood or her bedtime.  I agree with the last post regarding the super early bedtime.  Good luck!

marguis and reshi … when you put your kiddos to bed around the 530 hour, what time do they typically wake up?  do they sleep through the night? feed around a certain time at night? i've often thought of maybe putting my boy to bed a little earlier but i'm honestly not wanting to get up with him for the day at 5am!!!! 6am is hard enough!  just wondering!
