My little guy was sleeping through the night from 11 weeks to 15 weeks.  For the last month (he is now 5 1/2 months) he has gotten up every night at least four times.  Sometimes it is every hour, sometimes every two.  Some nights if we are lucky we get to sleep four hours.

Our old routine (11 to 15 weeks old) used to be bath time at 8 p.m., baby massage & bottle then bed by 8:30.  He would get up around 10:30 or 11 for another bottle and be down for the night.

About a month ago he started screaming when we would put him to bed at 8:30…my little guy is not a screamer…he has always been so pleasant.

After two weeks of screaming at bedtime we tried putting him to bed early (suggested by your website)  he seems to be happier when goes to bed now.  BUT he is still getting up at least four times a night and instead of his food intake decreasing he is eating more.  I think he is associating eating with his bedtime.  I would love to break him of this but I just cannot let him Cry It Out.  It is truly heartbreaking for me.

Our new routine is bath & baby massage between 6 & 6:30.  Bed by 7 p.m.  He is normally up at 10:30 for another feeding.  After 10:30 it varies each night but last night he got up at 12:30 a.m. wanted to cuddle & eat, then up at 2 a.m. fed him a 6 ounce bottle, then up at 4 a.m. he ate 2 more ounces.  finally at 6 a.m he was up for the day.  Most days he is up for the day at 5 a.m. so I lucked out this morning.

Any advice anyone can offer will be appreciated!

Hi Janette-

I hope things are going better for you and your famiy's sleep!

Just incase you are still struggling, here is a link to an article about the 4 month (sometimes 5) sleep regression. It sounds like your son my be suffering from that, and you are right, if you introduce a sleep prop (ie. eating when he wakes every few hours) it will become habit and will have to be broken. You do NOT have to let him cry it out, there are more gentle ways to help him learn to fall asleep on his own. So I have also given yo a link to Nicole's sleep training series:

Best wishes!
